These are achieved by adding white to the tone. Finally, lightness is the other form of hue variation. From a color in its pure state, more or less luminous tones can be obtained by adding black.

These three properties are then responsible for describing and standardizing a color. Each element of a color palette has tone, hue, and lightness.
